A man was murdered during a robbery at a farm in Matanzas: Three people have been arrested

Three individuals were apprehended following the discovery of human remains on a farm in Matanzas, as reported by a Facebook account affiliated with the Police in that province.

The incident occurred in Cuatro Esquinas, a small rural village in the municipality of Los Arabos, at the La Amelia farm.

"No one could believe what their eyes saw: the remains of a man, scattered in two different locations on the ground," reported the author of the post.

The motive for the crime was robbery. The perpetrators wanted money, clothing, and other belongings of the victim, "but the situation got out of hand" and they ended up murdering her in her own home.

"Later, in a desperate attempt to erase the traces, they took the body out of the house and hid it on the property, in the same places where, days later, residents found the remains," the information specifies.

The detainees are named Manuel Antuña Araujo, Danger Luis Zayas Álvarez, and Elio Elieser Álvarez Tamayo.

The victim was not identified.

The incident occurs amidst a sustained increase in criminal violence in Matanzas. According to data from the Cuban Observatory for Citizen Audit (OCAC), the province recorded 503 verified crimes in 2025, the highest figure in the country.

So far this year, Matanzas has witnessed several violent incidents across different municipalities. At the beginning of August, a 19-year-old young man died following a violent incident at a recreational center in the main city, and a 15-year-old teenager was arrested as a suspected offender.

In mid that same month, a man died from a gunshot in Limonar while he was closing the gate of his house.

In rural areas, there are also reports of cattle thefts, attacks on farmers, and concealment of corpses in agricultural regions. In May, a man who was engaged in horse-drawn carriage transport in Cárdenas was found dead with a stab wound in his back.

The OCAC also recorded 721 reports of thefts in rural areas of Cuba during 2025, along with 193 cases of illegal livestock theft and slaughter in the first half of that year, reflecting a sustained deterioration of security in the Cuban countryside, exacerbated by the economic crisis the Island has been facing after decades of dictatorship.
