The U.S. dollar began this Sunday showing no signs of decline in the Cuban informal market, while the euro rose again and the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) also recorded an increase.
At 10:00 a.m. this Sunday, the dollar was valued at 693 Cuban pesos (CUP), exactly the same value as the previous day.
The euro, for its part, picked up the pace again and reached 788 CUP, one peso more than on Saturday, when it was at 787 CUP.
The European currency continues to be the most expensive among the major currencies circulating in the informal market and has already surpassed the dollar by 95 pesos.
Exchange Rate Evolution
The MLC also started the day on the rise, with a reference value of 464 CUP, five pesos more than the previous day.
- U.S. Dollar: 693 CUP.
- Euro: 788 CUP.
- MLC: 464 CUP.
The movement of recent days once again highlights the pressure Cubans face to obtain foreign currency. Just a week ago, the dollar was at 683 CUP and the euro at 775 CUP.
Meanwhile, the official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba for Segment III remains at 655 CUP per dollar and 760 CUP per euro, still below the values of the informal market.
Amid inflation, low salaries, and the increasing dollarization of the economy, the price of foreign currency continues to be a key reference for Cubans, both for purchasing products and for saving, importing goods, or financing trips abroad.
