The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) concluded the summer of 2026 with unprecedented figures: 50,925 arrests in August, a new monthly high that made this month the third consecutive one with a historic record.
The Department of Homeland Security reported the official data on September 2.
The increase was sustained over the three summer months. In June, there were 43,900 arrests of undocumented immigrants. In July, 50,208 were detained, and in August, ICE broke the record with 50,925 arrests, marking the second consecutive month over 50,000 arrests.
“Since President Trump returned to office, more than 3 million undocumented immigrants have left the United States,” the report states.
The ICE ranking by cities
Telemundo reported that in total, ICE has accumulated more than 570,000 arrests since the beginning of the second Trump administration, a number that is equivalent to emptying cities the size of Atlanta or Miami.
Texas topped the ranking with 63,404 arrests recorded between January and August 2026. During that period, Dallas was the city with the highest number of detentions in the country, with 8,106 arrests. It was followed by Laredo with 7,141 and Conroe with 7,124, both also in Texas.
The second state with the highest number of arrests is Florida, with 29,624. The dominance of both states reflects both their high concentration of immigrant population and the willingness of their governments to cooperate with federal authorities.
Miami is the city in Florida that recorded the highest arrests by ICE, with 4,862 between January and August, followed by Orlando with 3,680 and Tampa with 3,271.
The ICE office in Miami was described as one of the most active in the country: it accumulated 41,310 detentions from January 2025 to April 2026, averaging 120 arrests per day.
In Miami-Dade County, the Miami Police was identified as the local agency with the highest number of migrants detained under 287(g) agreements, with 451 arrests between August 2025 and August 23, 2026. These agreements allow municipal agencies to collaborate directly with ICE in the detention of migrants.
What characterizes this stage of ICE?
According to a report by Telemundo, the tactics used by ICE agents have included making more street arrests, enhancing collaboration with jails and local agencies, and increasing raids in cities such as Houston, New York, Memphis, San Francisco, and Atlanta.
Other common points of detention for immigrants are the airports, the courthouses, and the immigration control offices.
The increase in arrests this summer was also characterized by a rise in the capture of individuals without criminal records, which sparked criticism from civil rights organizations across the country.
