One of the greatest duos in reggaeton has been pursuing separate projects for years, but the question that everyone had on their minds was finally asked by someone brave enough to do so. During the coverage of the Premios Juventud 2026 in Marbella, a reporter from the Despierta América program on Univision directly asked Yandel why he was not featured on La Universidad del Perreo, the new solo album of his long-time partner Wisin.
The response came straightforwardly, without drama and with the elegance that characterizes the artist: "I wasn't invited, but it's all good, you know? W is my brother and we always have our business and our individual things as well," Yandel stated.
The question made perfect sense: if there is someone who should be on an album titled The University of Perreo —a tribute to the roots of the genre— it is precisely the man who, alongside Wisin, built much of that university over nearly 25 years of their joint career.
The album, released on September 4, features artists such as Ivy Queen, Jowell & Randy, Don Chezina, Jory Boy, Trébol Clan, and Kapo, among others. Yandel's absence stands out, and it has not gone unnoticed by anyone.
But far from holding a grudge, the Puerto Rican singer showed that his bond with "W" remains intact. And when the reporter asked if he would make his own version of the Universidad del Perreo, Yandel didn't hesitate: "I think so." And what would be the first subject? "Dale hasta abajo." Masterclass.
The interview took place at the best possible moment for Yandel: he had just received the "Agent of Change" award at the 2026 Premios Juventud — presented by Farruko — and had performed an exclusive symphonic number with an orchestra of violins. The night was his.
On social media, the statement about Wisin's album sparked all kinds of reactions. The most popular comment on the post from the account @rapeton on Instagram —with more than 1,800 likes— pointed out that "Yandel didn't want to continue with the duo and has never invited Wisin to the symphonic shows." Other fans, on the other hand, celebrated that the relationship remains cordial: "People will never understand, it's business apart."
Wisin and Yandel announced the end of their time as a duo in December 2021, although in 2023 they reunited briefly with Don Omar for the song Sandunga, making it clear that the door is never completely closed.
And if anyone still doubted that the Wisin-Yandel universe continues to create memorable moments, it's enough to recall that on the same night in Marbella a reporter from Univision mistakenly called Wisin "Yandel" right on the red carpet. Even fate seems determined to keep them together.
