Donald Trump launched a poll on his social media platform Truth Social this Saturday to suggest three alternative names for "artificial intelligence", arguing that the current term is "inaccurate and very uneloquent."
In his post, the president offered three options: Superior Intelligence (SI), Extreme Intelligence (EI), and Supreme Intelligence (SI), and asked his followers to vote for the best one to name this "growing revolution."
"A much more elegant and precise description of this new phenomenon would be Superior Intelligence (SI), Extreme Intelligence (EI), or Supreme Intelligence (SI)," wrote Trump.
The initiative reflects a recurring pattern of the leader: using polls on Truth Social to suggest name changes for media purposes.
In June 2026, he did the same with the ICE agency, proposing to rename it NICE; in September, he suggested changing the name of the state of New Mexico and also that of the Strait of Hormuz. None of these proposals have automatic legal effect.
The survey comes just five days after Trump described as a "sick conspiracy" the warnings about the risks of artificial intelligence, in response to a call from Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, advocating for a more measured development of the technology.
On that occasion, Trump rejected any additional regulation and stated, "The only oversight or security mechanism that AI needs is a strong and intelligent president (with a high IQ!), and the United States has that in abundance!"
The debate over the real risks of technology intensified this week after it was revealed that a military report generated by artificial intelligence nearly triggered a U.S. operation against a Chinese vessel in the Middle East during the spring of 2026, according to CNN.
The proposal to rename the technology contrasts with the stance of the American public: a survey from the University of Massachusetts in August 2026 found that 57% of citizens believe that Trump has mishandled artificial intelligence, compared to just 23% who approve of his management in this area.
In parallel, a Politico survey this month revealed that 63% of Americans believe that artificial intelligence could destroy humanity someday, and 48% support pausing the development of more advanced models.
The Trump administration has indeed implemented real institutional changes in the sector: in June 2025, it renamed the Artificial Intelligence Security Institute (AISI) to the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI), removing the word "security" from its name and reorienting its mission towards innovation and competitiveness against China.
