The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported the arrest of a Cuban immigrant in Alabama who is in the country illegally and is believed to have a history of theft, domestic violence, harassment, and strangulation.
The office of ICE New Orleans indicated that the criminal history of the detainee, identified by the initials Y.G.P., includes theft, domestic violence with a firearm, harassment, and domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation in Jefferson County.
The immigration agency did not specify the circumstances or date of those events in its publication, nor did it clarify which of them correspond to convictions.
However, official court records from Alabama confirm that Y.G.P. was involved in three criminal cases before the Jefferson County Circuit Court, identified as CC-23-2066, CC-23-2067, and CC-23-2085.
These causes were later the subject of a joint appeal to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, under the case file CR-2024-0662.
According to the public record of the proceedings, the appellate court upheld the first-instance decision through a memorandum on October 31, 2025. The defense subsequently requested a reconsideration.
An official document from the Criminal Appeals Court confirms that this request was denied on November 21, 2025.
Subsequently, the defense appealed to the Alabama Supreme Court with a petition for certiorari, which was also denied, as noted in the public record of the case file.
