A Cuban woman showed on TikTok what she can buy on the island with a monthly salary of between 4,500 and 5,000 Cuban pesos, an amount that barely allows her to purchase some basic food items.
In the video, the woman details the prices of several products and calculates how much money she needs for a purchase that includes rice, beans, garlic, onion, coffee, and sugar.
According to their explanation, they allocate 850 pesos for five pounds of rice, 1,200 pesos for four pounds of beans, 480 pesos for garlic and onion, 1,200 pesos for a package of coffee, and another 1,200 pesos for four pounds of sugar.
The total amounts to 4,930 Cuban pesos, essentially the entire salary used as a reference.
"I have seventy pesos left, which isn't enough to buy any kind of meat, eggs, or oil," the Cuban in the video points out.
The post generated numerous reactions on TikTok, where users commented on the high cost of food and the loss of purchasing power of salaries in Cuba.
