The Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla responded this Tuesday to the words of the U.S. president Donald Trump at the 81st General Assembly of the UN, labeling his statements as "falsehoods" and "slander" in a post on his social media.
Trump had stated at the multilateral forum that Cuba "is an absolutely failed state" and predicted the fall of the regime. As a sign of protest, the Cuban delegation left the UN hall while the president was delivering his speech.
Rodríguez Parrilla posted a message on social media and rejected the words of the American president.
"The government of the United States is unable to accept that Cuba is, and has the right to be, a fully independent and sovereign country. None of the falsehoods from the President of the U.S. at the United Nations, nor any slander, can or will deny that fact," Rodríguez stated.
The head of Cuban diplomacy also condemned the U.S. embargo, which he described as "an act of genocide and collective punishment."
"The economic blockade, including the energy siege, does threaten Cuba and the rest of the nations. We are a country of peace and we deserve peace," said the chancellor.
In his speech, Trump closed the passage dedicated to Cuba with a promise: "Communism will never reach America, but freedom will reach Cuba."
The official also accused the Cuban regime of "spending decades coordinating with left-wing radicals and communist networks" within the United States, mentioning the American Communist Party, Antifa, and the Democratic Socialists of America, citing a report from the State Department published in July 2026.
Trump also added that Secretary of State Marco Rubio "is conducting the negotiations" with Havana, a statement that directly contradicts what Rodríguez Parrilla himself declared on September 8: “There have been no negotiations, nor are there any agreements or roadmaps”.
The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel also reacted on social media with a tone similar to that of Rodríguez Parrilla. He accused Trump of resorting to lies at the UN.
"Unable to justify the punishment inflicted on the Cuban people and its genocidal economic war, the U.S. president repeats at the UN that Cuba represents a threat. 'Lying is the tool of those who refuse to accept the right to self-determination of the Cuban people,' said Díaz-Canel."
Rodríguez is scheduled to formally address the General Assembly on Friday, September 26, when the regime will give its official response from the same forum where Trump issued his warnings this Tuesday.
