The president Donald Trump proclaimed this Tuesday before the 81st United Nations General Assembly that his administration has transformed what he called a "dark era" inherited from the previous government into a "golden age of America," while delivering his most direct statements to date about Cuba at the global forum.
In a lengthy speech delivered in New York —during the celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence— Trump reviewed a long list of "achievements" in the economy, security, and foreign policy, reserving some of his most pointed remarks for the Cuban regime.
In economic terms, he listed figures that he presented as historical records: he claimed to have created more than one million jobs in the private sector since taking office, that the poverty rate is at its lowest level in the country's history, and that average real household income has risen to 87,000 dollars.
He also stated that he had investment commitments of 21 billion dollars from all over the world.
"We inherited a dark era of America from the previous administration, and we transformed it into America's golden age," he stated.
In foreign policy, Trump portrayed himself as a president of action compared to those who "only talk." "While others talked, I acted; while others spoke of peace, I made peace," he said, listing eight conflicts he claimed to have resolved since taking office, including Gaza, the clashes between Pakistan and India, and that of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"My administration also seeks a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba, where the communist regime is under tremendous pressure, the greatest pressure it has ever faced. It is an absolutely failed state. It is failing like never before, and it will fall," Trump stated before the leaders gathered at the UN headquarters.
The Cuban delegation left the room during those statements.
Trump also revealed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is conducting active negotiations with Havana: “Rubio is handling a negotiation. He is engaged in negotiations with Cuba. We will see what happens.” The president closed the chapter on Cuba with a statement that resonated throughout the venue: “Communism will never reach America, but freedom will come to Cuba.”
About Iran, Trump described the military operations that, he claimed, destroyed the Iranian nuclear program and sank 159 ships from its navy.
He openly posed the dilemma he faces: "Will an agreement be made with Iran that allows them to rebuild and create a much better country than they had before... or should I swiftly annihilate the Islamic Republic?". He expressed hope to finalize an agreement "just after the midterm elections."
Regarding Venezuela, Trump recounted the military operation of January 3, 2026, which resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Caracas, and announced that the previous month, the U.S. signed what he described as "the largest oil deal in history," covering 65,000 million barrels of crude. "The spoils go to the victor," he declared.
Trump also announced an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that grants the U.S. permanent control over the security of that Arctic territory, with the construction of two large military bases and signing expected on that same day.
In the institutional arena, it was reported that the UN's budget was cut by 15% for the first time in 2026 and that more than 4,000 positions were eliminated from its bureaucracy. Additionally, it urged all member countries of the International Criminal Court to withdraw from what it termed a "rogue institution."
Regarding Ukraine, Trump promised that the conflict —in which, he stated, 25,000 people die each month— will be resolved "faster than people understand."
