A huge pothole on the Venegas road, in the locality of Perea, municipality of Yaguajay (Sancti Spíritus), became the star of a viral video after being ironically dubbed the "Perea jacuzzi" by a local resident.
The clip was posted by Yosvany González on Facebook with the description: "Venegas Road, Perea, Yaguajay municipality, Sancti Spíritus. Jacuzzi available for the community, the new addition to the area, don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the depths of nature."
In the images, the author can be heard sarcastically announcing: "Here we have Perea's jacuzzi. The vacation plan is now inaugurated. Look, gentlemen. How lovely!"
The video accumulated over 208,000 views and more than a hundred comments, becoming a new example of the humor with which Cubans highlight the neglect of road infrastructure.
Perea is a small town with approximately 2,388 inhabitants, located 24 kilometers from the municipal center of Yaguajay and connected to the neighboring town of Venegas by the same road where the sinkhole has appeared.
Other Cuban potholes that have made the news
The "Perea jacuzzi" is not an isolated case. In April 2026, a video of children swimming in a flooded pothole in Pinar del Río exceeded 127,000 views on social media.
In August 2026, there were warnings about a huge crater on the Guanajay–Puente de Caimito road in Artemisa, which covered almost the entire roadway without any official signage. Only a few branches stuck in the ground warned drivers of the danger.
The deterioration of the roads poses a risk to traffic safety. In 2025, there were 7,538 traffic accidents in Cuba, resulting in 750 fatalities and over 6,700 injuries. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, 153 deaths were recorded on the roads.
