A crowd of young people filled the streets of Pinar del Río to bid farewell to Yan Marcos, a young man who passed away over the weekend after having an accident in that city.
Images shared on social media show dozens of people accompanying the procession to the cemetery, where young motorcyclists played a prominent role in the farewell. At another moment during the tribute, white birds were released while family, friends, and acquaintances surrounded the area.
The death provoked numerous expressions of sorrow on social media. People who claimed to know him posted farewell messages and condolences for his family. One of them remembered him as a "friend and dancing companion."
Your cousin Ana Lidia Valdés also dedicated an emotional message along with family photos.
"Today you left tears in our eyes, filled with love, sadness, pride, and despair," he wrote. In his farewell, he assured that the family felt proud of him "until the very last moment" and recalled that his father had passed away earlier.
Other messages published after the tragedy highlight concerns about the speed while driving, although details confirming the exact circumstances of the accident have not yet been disclosed.
Yeriel Pérez Martínez, who stated that he recognized the young man by sight and recalled having helped him once to lower a motorcycle, urged after his death that "young people should become aware and stop driving at high speeds."
