A private restaurant in Cienfuegos turned to social media to track down a group of customers after discovering that, by mistake, it had overcharged them by 7,000 Cuban pesos and wanted to return the money.
The establishment Rancho Cristal, located in La Milpa, published a notice on Facebook on Saturday directed to a group of seven or eight people who had occupied one of its tables that day.
"We need to return money that we collected in error, please forgive us, we made a mistake with the account and we just realized it," the business explained.
The problem was that the restaurant had no contact information for the customers to notify them directly.
The owner, known as Mandy, explained in the comments that his workers were saddened by what had happened, but he insisted that the important thing was to acknowledge the mistake and rectify it.
"The difference is 7,000 pesos, we don't have his phone number, the guys are embarrassed with me, and I told them that anyone can make a mistake, but we need to acknowledge and return that," he wrote.
Rancho Cristal also published a phone number for customers to contact the establishment and retrieve their money.
The gesture prompted numerous messages of appreciation on Facebook.
"Honesty is very valuable. And even more so in these times, it's hard to find people like that," commented a user.
Another customer recounted that she had a similar experience at the same restaurant. According to her story, after a visit with her husband, the establishment called them to inform them that they had overpaid.
"Later they called us to return the money and we left it as a tip for the workers; they are undoubtedly the best in Cienfuegos," he stated.
This is not the first time a similar gesture has caught attention in Cuba. In August 2025, a salesperson from Isla de la Juventud turned to social media to find a customer who had overpaid for a garment and return her money.
In a context marked by high prices and the economic difficulties faced by Cubans, the restaurant's initiative was celebrated precisely for something as simple as acknowledging a mistake before those affected brought it to attention.
"To err is human, to correct is wise," summarized one of the users.
