opens this Friday, October 2, with the three reference currencies rising compared to the previous day.

At 10:00 a.m. (Cuban local time), the US dollar rises to an average of 774 Cuban pesos, the euro stands at 875 pesos, and the MLC is at 504 pesos.

Summary of exchange rates

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 774 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 875 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 504 CUP (indicative value).

Dollar: eleven pesos more than yesterday

The US dollar is trading at 774 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, with a buying rate of 770 CUP and a selling rate of 778 CUP.

This represents an increase of 11 pesos compared to the previous session, when the average value was at 763 CUP.

Exchange Rate Evolution

The upward trend is not an isolated incident: in the last week, the dollar has risen by 44 pesos, an increase of 6% compared to seven days ago, when it was trading at 730 CUP.

Thirty days ago, the exchange rate was 678 CUP, which represents a difference of 96 pesos. However, it's important to note that such a comparison over that period may partly reflect methodological adjustments of the index.

In the last 30 days, the dollar today marks its highest recorded rate, at 774 CUP, compared to a low of 678 CUP.

Euro: new monthly high at 875 pesos

The euro is quoted at 875 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying rate of 870 CUP and a selling rate of 880 CUP.

Regarding the previous day, the European currency has risen by 8 pesos, from the 867 CUP recorded yesterday.

In weekly terms, the increase is 43 pesos, 5.2% above the 832 CUP from seven days ago.

Thirty days ago, the euro was exchanging at 770 CUP, which implies a difference of 105 pesos. However, similar to the dollar, part of that variation may be due to methodological adjustments of the index.

The European currency today marks its highest point in the last 30 days, at 875 CUP, and exceeds the dollar by 101 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

MLC: indicative value of 504 pesos

The MLC registers an average value of 504 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a purchase of 499 CUP and a sale of 508 CUP. This information should be treated with caution: the volume of transactions in this range is limited and the value is indicative.

Regarding the previous session, the MLC increases 14 pesos from yesterday's 490 CUP.

In the last week, the movement has been more moderate, with an increase of 6 pesos compared to the 498 CUP from seven days ago.

Thirty days ago, it was exchanged at 464 CUP. Without physical existence, its use is limited to state-owned businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

Gap between the informal market and the official rate

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 693 CUP per dollar and 778 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that apply in daily practice in the informal currency market.

The difference between both markets today reaches 81 pesos for the dollar and 97 pesos for the euro.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual currency demand of the population.

In the last month, the official exchange rate of the dollar increased from 638 CUP to 693 CUP, and the euro rose from 739 CUP to 778 CUP, a trend that, despite being upward, has not managed to close the gap with the parallel market.
