The Cuban music, dance, and domino games have a free event in Miami this weekend. The Adrienne Arsht Center continues this Friday, October 2, with Rhythm & Roots, a cultural celebration for all ages that will run until Sunday, October 4.

The proposal combines live performances, DJ sets, handicrafts, and exhibitions related to Cuban and Latin American culture. It is part of the activities organized around the premiere in South Florida of the musical Buena Vista Social Club, although the free party and the Broadway show have separate tickets.

Who will perform and what time does each day begin?

The official Arsht calendar announces three more days for the ongoing celebration, with different schedules each day.

Friday, October 2, at 6:30 p.m.: the duo OKAN and Julio Montalvo and El Huracán de Miami are scheduled to perform.

Saturday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m.: the program includes Mr. Pauer, Magela Herrera, Humberto Ibarra, SONLOKOS, and the Dafnis Prieto Artist Ensemble, known as DPAE, from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.

Sunday, October 4, at 3:00 p.m.: the closing event will feature Mr. Pauer, Pedrito Calvo Jr., and MiriamMar.

All times are in Miami local time. The center warns that the participation of the artists is subject to change.

How to book free tickets

The celebration welcomes attendees of all ages, but each guest requires a ticket, including children, according to the conditions published by the Arsht and also stated in the Culture Shock Miami information sheet.

To check availability and make a reservation, you must visit the official Rhythm & Roots page, select the date, and use the “RSVP Here” button to confirm your attendance.

It is advisable to review the information for the selected event before traveling and ensure that the reservation corresponds to the free celebration, not to a musical performance.

Where will it be and what other activities will there be?

The Adrienne Arsht Center is located at 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida 33132. The schedule includes activities in its outdoor public spaces and cultural offerings inside the center.

In addition to listening to music and dancing, visitors will be able to participate in domino games and browse stalls from local artisans and vendors. The free entry to the event should not be confused with any purchases that each person decides to make at those stalls.

Inside, there will be exhibits, objects, and photographs about the culture and stories of Cuba. According to the Greater Miami & Miami Beach agenda, these offerings include collaborations from Conecta Miami Arts, the Freedom Tower of Miami Dade College, and the Public Humanities Lab at Florida International University.

The musical Buena Vista Social Club is not included

Rhythm & Roots accompanies the season of Buena Vista Social Club at the Ziff Ballet Opera House, scheduled from September 29 to October 4. The theatrical production recreates the story of the renowned Cuban album through music and its protagonists.

No ticket purchase is necessary to attend the free celebration. Those who wish to also see the show should inquire separately about its performances, prices, and availability: the reservation for Rhythm & Roots does not include access to the Broadway show.
