A blind grandmother recognized her granddaughter the moment she arrived unexpectedly in Cuba, in a reunion that went viral on TikTok after being published on September 30 by the account @nina98.5.

The clip, lasting one minute and 35 seconds, accumulated in just a few days 271,900 views, 39,300 "likes," 1,422 comments, and 782 shares, generating widespread interaction on the platform.

What makes this video unique compared to others is the grandmother's blindness: the elderly woman cannot see her granddaughter, but she recognizes her immediately, bringing forth tears and emotion among those present.

In the images, the grandmother is heard asking in confusion as she opens the door of the house accompanied by other people: "And what did you come for?" At that moment, the granddaughter hugs her, and as the grandmother touches her, she realizes it is her granddaughter and exclaims in disbelief: "Oh, my God, oh, my love!"

The scene culminates in exclamations of excitement and tears, as the family tries to grasp the unexpected reunion.

This video is part of a series of recordings shared on TikTok during 2025 and 2026, in which emigrated Cubans make surprise returns to the island and capture the moment of reunion with their loved ones.

Only in September, a Cuban who surprised his father on the island surpassed 308,900 views, while a family that arrived after two and a half years accumulated more than 108,000 views.

The videos document separations ranging from two to more than eight years, featuring Cubans who surprise their parents after nearly a decade and other family reunions marked by intense emotional scenes.

Emigration has separated numerous Cuban families and turned every return —whether expected or surprising— into an event of immense emotional significance for those who remain in Cuba.

In the more than 1,400 comments on the video by @nina98.5, many TikTok users particularly highlighted the reaction of the grandmother, who didn’t need to see her granddaughter to recognize her during the unexpected reunion.
