Young people turning 18 in 2026 still have time to apply for the 400 euro Young Cultural Voucher in Spain, a subsidy that this year includes new spending options, such as musical instruments, artistic creation materials, and cultural courses.
The deadline will remain open until 11:59 PM, Spanish mainland time, on October 31, 2026, as established by the announcement published in the Official State Bulletin.
The aid is aimed at individuals born in 2008 who meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Culture and allows for the use of up to 400 euros on cultural products, services, and activities at participating establishments and organizations.
Who can apply for the 400 euro Youth Cultural Bonus?
Those who turn 18 years old in 2026 and have Spanish nationality or legal residence in Spain at the time of submitting the application will be able to apply.
The call also includes certain foreign individuals who do not yet have ordinary legal residency.
Specifically, individuals applying for asylum in Spain, those who have requested temporary protection, and foreigners under guardianship who are in the process of obtaining legal residency permits may also be eligible.
This means that the Cultural Youth Voucher is not exclusively reserved for Spanish citizens. Foreign young people who meet the conditions set forth in the call can also apply for it.
Until when can it be requested?
The 2026 call began on June 22 and will remain open until October 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
The application must be submitted electronically through the official website of the Bono Cultural Joven.
There is no need to wait until turning 18 years old. Those born in 2008 who are still 17 can start the process as long as they turn 18 during this year.
What is needed to apply for the Cultural Bonus?
Before submitting the request, it is necessary to have a digital identification system.
The Ministry of Culture outlines three options: Cl@ve with basic registration, which can be obtained through a video call; Cl@ve with advanced registration, which can be processed in person and is especially useful for those who have not yet turned 18; or a digital certificate.
The procedure can be carried out directly by the young person or through the representation of an adult.
In this last case, the representation form available on the Bono Cultural Joven page must be attached, duly signed by the beneficiary.
Two different ways to spend 400 euros in 2026
One of the main updates this year is that those applying for the Bonus must choose between two different options.
The decision must be made at the time of submitting the application. The two options are incompatible and, according to the official announcement, once the application is submitted, the selected option cannot be changed.
Option 1: 200 euros, 100 euros, and 100 euros
The first option allocates the 400 euros among three major categories.
Up to 200 euros can be used for live arts and audiovisuals, cultural heritage, and certain forms of artistic creation.
This section includes, among others, tickets and subscriptions for theater, concerts, movies, museums, exhibitions, and festivals, as well as certain in-person cultural courses.
In 2026, this category may also include musical instruments, sheet music, cameras, and certain software specifically designed for artistic creation.
Other 100 euros are reserved for cultural products in physical formats, such as books, magazines, newspapers, video games, vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray.
The remaining 100 euros can be used for digital consumption, such as e-books, audiobooks, digital music, certain online cultural courses, and subscriptions to music, audiovisual, reading, cloud gaming, or digital publishing platforms.
Option 2: the 400 euros to create culture
The second option allows for the concentration of up to 400 complete euros in a single category focused on cultural creation and training.
Money can be used for cultural content courses and workshops, both in-person and online, as well as for musical instruments, artistic creation tools, and art supplies.
This alternative is one of the key innovations introduced in 2026 and is designed for young people who prefer to use the funding to learn, practice, or create culture rather than spreading the money across various forms of cultural consumption.
The option cannot be changed afterward
Before completing the application, it is advisable to carefully review which option best fits the beneficiary's plans.
The regulations establish that the two options are incompatible and that the selected modality is associated with the prepaid card.
Once the application for the Young Cultural Bonus has been submitted, it will not be possible to switch from one option to another.
What things cannot be bought with the Cultural Voucher?
The 400 euros cannot be freely used for any purchase.
The regulations exclude, among other products, fashion, gastronomy, sporting events, curricular textbooks, general-use stationery, and computer or electronic equipment.
Computers, mobile phones, tablets, hardware, or computer consumables cannot be generally purchased either.
There are some exceptions explicitly related to cultural creation, such as certain professional programs aimed at artistic production.
Digital subscriptions have a limit
Another condition worth knowing pertains to digital platforms.
Subsidizable subscriptions to music, audiovisual, or video game platforms are limited to a maximum of four months, without prejudice to any commercial promotions that may extend this period.
Physical purchases must be picked up in person
Cultural products in physical formats purchased with the Voucher must be picked up in person at the establishment where the sale was made.
The regulations generally do not allow these products to be shipped to home addresses or collection points.
The exception is certain subscriptions to newspapers or magazines.
What happens if something costs more than the available balance?
The Cultural Voucher does not require that the total price of a product or activity be fully covered by the assistance.
If an entry, instrument, course, or product exceeds the available balance or the limit of the corresponding category, the beneficiary can pay the difference using another accepted payment method at the establishment.
Where can the Cultural Voucher be used?
Assistance can only be used in companies, establishments, and institutions that are officially enrolled in the program.
The Bono Cultural portal features a search engine for participating entities located throughout Spain.
The Ministry of Culture announced at the opening of the call that the program had around 4,000 registered entities in the country.
How to receive the 400 euros
Once the assistance is granted, the beneficiary receives a virtual prepaid card associated with the Young Cultural Bonus.
In cases where the individual does not have a compatible smartphone or NFC technology and indicates this during the application process, a physical card can be provided.
Help is personal and non-transferable.
There is a year to spend the Cultural Voucher
Once granted, the beneficiary has one year from the date of the grant resolution to use the balance.
After this period, the Bonus is automatically deactivated and any unused funds will no longer be available.
Therefore, October 31 is only the deadline to apply for the aid, not the deadline to spend the 400 euros.
How to apply for the Youth Cultural Voucher now
Those born in 2008 who have not yet initiated the process can do so through the official portal of the Bono Cultural Joven.
It is advisable to obtain either Cl@ve or a digital certificate first, carefully review the two available options, and keep in mind that the choice made during the application cannot be changed later.
The deadline is 11:59 PM on October 31, 2026, so young people who meet the requirements still have several weeks to apply for the 400 euros.
