JL el Callejero wants to prove that "Los Peces" was not just a one-hit wonder. The Cuban artist has just released "Las Cucarachas" and is already promoting it on social media with a phrase that seems destined to become another catchy chorus.
"The people thought it was a streak and I'm still killing cockroaches... po, po, po, po, po," sings JL in a reel posted on Instagram to promote the release.
In the post's description, he announced that this is his "second track" and confirmed that "Las Cucarachas" is already available on Spotify. He also tagged Volty Las Manos Mágicas and @cubanodecalle.
The video combines several scenes of the artist in Havana: he appears wearing his signature hat and large dark glasses, first sitting in a living room and then in front of the Havana coastline, as he performs snippets of the song.
Osmani García gives his approval
Among the reactions to the premiere, there was one that did not go unnoticed. Osmani García joined the comments and made it clear that he liked the proposal.
"He's got the poison," wrote the Cuban singer along with several fire emojis, before adding: "You no longer have to mention dictators to get attention [...] keep it up, that's the way to go."
Osmani closed his comment by repeating the "po, po, po" from the song and the phrase "they thought it was a streak," which is exactly the message JL seems to be conveying in this new stage.
El Callejero quickly responded, "Damn, yes master, you understood me," and emphasized that now it's time to "keep making music," while also inviting Osmani García to catch up with what he is doing.
After the phenomenon of "Los Peces"
«Las Cucarachas» arrives after the unexpected phenomenon led by JL el Callejero with «Los Peces», whose chorus «All of you are fish and fell into the net» became one of the most repeated audios among Cubans on social media.
CiberCuba reported then how the song came about from a challenge initiated by Osniel Kimii and how JL's unique interpretation ended up standing out among the various versions.
"Los Peces," along with Volty Las Manos Mágicas, has also made the leap from social media to digital platforms. In a recent snapshot of his Spotify profile, JL el Callejero appears with approximately 19,600 monthly listeners, and the track has surpassed 53,000 streams.
Now "Las Cucarachas" is listed alongside "Los Peces" among the songs visible on the artist's profile, although it's still too early to tell if it will manage to achieve the same reach as its predecessor.
For now, JL seems to have a clear response for those who thought that success was just a fluke: another song, another catchy chorus, and the "po, po, po, po" with which he is already trying to reel his followers in again.
