The United States Embassy in Havana announced this Sunday that it has several job openings for individuals interested in joining its team in Cuba.

"Are you looking for a job? Our Embassy has available positions and is seeking dynamic and qualified individuals who are interested in joining our team," stated the diplomatic mission in a Facebook post.

The Embassy invited interested parties to check the open positions, review the specific requirements, and submit their applications through the official ERA jobs portal of the Department of State.

Currently, available positions include those in public communications, security, transportation, warehouse, and technology.

  • Strategic Content Coordination Assistant: position within the Public Diplomacy section. The application deadline is October 7, 2026.
  • Guardia: the Embassy has two job openings for the Regional Security Office. Both close on October 8, 2026.
  • Warehouse worker and truck driver: full-time position, with a workweek of 39 hours. The application deadline is October 8, 2026.
  • Driver: position assigned to the General Services Office. The deadline to submit applications ends on October 12, 2026.
  • Public Participation Assistant, specializing in experiential learning: vacancy within the Public Diplomacy office. Closes on October 12, 2026.
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Technician: position in the Diplomatic Technology section, with a deadline of October 15, 2026.

The job postings do not publicly specify the salary in the general listing. Interested parties must access each individual announcement to review the responsibilities, required experience, documentation, and other job conditions.

The official employment page of the Embassy of the United States in Cuba states that all applications must be submitted through the ERA system to be considered.

Aspirants must also have legal authorization to work in Cuba. According to the Embassy, this primarily includes Cuban citizens or legal residents, as well as accredited members of the diplomatic corps and their eligible family members.

The selected candidates will also be subject to a security investigation prior to their appointment.

The Embassy recommends fully reading each announcement before submitting the application and attaching all required documentation from the outset. Communications regarding tests or interviews are conducted via email through the ERA system.

In the case of the selected Cuban citizens, the diplomatic mission specifies that they must be approved and hired through the Cuban employment agency PALCO before starting work at the Embassy.

That job placement mechanism remains in effect for diplomatic missions despite the reform approved by the Cuban regime in early October to allow certain foreign companies and representations to hire workers directly.

The measure did not eliminate the obligation to use state employer entities in the case of embassies, consulates, international organizations, press agencies, and other entities excluded from direct hiring.

The reform was later expanded with clarifications on which foreign entities can hire directly and under what conditions, but diplomatic missions remain subject to the labor intermediation system established by Cuban authorities.
