Small business owners in District 9 of Miami-Dade who have already completed their application for the Mom and Pop program have this week as their last opportunity to submit documentation and qualify for assistance of up to $5,000.

The Miami-Dade County reported that completed applications will be accepted from this Monday, October 5, until Friday, October 9, at the Richmond Heights Business Development Hub.

The call is aimed at for-profit small businesses located within District 9 of Miami-Dade that have been in operation for at least one year.

New applications can no longer be accepted

There is an important difference for those who are still interested in the program: the period to download or pick up the form ended on Friday, October 2nd.

Therefore, the phase that begins now is not to submit a new application, but to submit the files of those who received the form within the established timeframe and already have the required documentation ready.

Miami-Dade indicated that completed applications, along with the corresponding documents, must be submitted in person inside a sealed envelope.

Delivery is made at the Richmond Heights Business Development Hub, located at Larcenia J. Ballard Plaza, 14508 Lincoln Blvd., Suite 210, Miami, FL 33176.

The deadline is Friday, October 9 at 4:00 p.m. The County warns that it will not accept applications submitted past the deadline.

Who could apply for assistance

According to the conditions published by Miami-Dade for District 9, the applicant must be the owner of a for-profit small business, have been active for at least one year, and operate within the boundaries of that district.

The general page of the Miami-Dade small business assistance program adds other common requirements: the business cannot be part of a national chain, must have a physical address, and must submit the corresponding documentation.

Among the documents mentioned by the County are the W-9 form, the local business tax certificate, and the licenses that correspond to the type of activity.

Businesses operated from a residential home can also participate, provided they meet the other program requirements and the specific conditions established for the district.

What can the up to $5,000 be used for?

The program allows the use of funds for various expenses directly related to the operation and improvement of the business.

  • Inventory and supplies.

  • Business equipment.

  • Liability insurance.

  • Small interior or exterior renovations.

  • Security systems.

The maximum amount available is $5,000 per business, although the granting of funds is subject to the evaluation and approval of each application.

A helping hand in a difficult time for small businesses

The call comes at a time of intense pressure for many small businesses in South Florida.

CiberCuba recently reported that small businesses in Miami are facing simultaneously increasing operational costs and a reduction in their customers' purchasing power, a combination that has forced some establishments to raise prices, reduce hours, or cut staff.

In that context, programs like Mom and Pop aim to provide direct funding for specific expenses that can be particularly challenging for small businesses to manage.

What to check before submitting the file

Those who already have the application must ensure that it is fully completed, that it includes all required documents, and that it is submitted in a sealed envelope at the indicated address.

It is also important to confirm that the business is indeed located within District 9 and meets the eligibility requirements before submitting the application.

Miami-Dade maintains information about the program, general requirements, and options to verify the corresponding commission district for each address on its official portal.
