As of 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 6, shows a mixed behavior: the dollar remains unchanged, the euro declines, and the MLC experiences a significant increase, although this last rate should be viewed with caution due to the low volume of transactions.

The US dollar (USD) remains at 770 Cuban pesos (CUP), the same value as the previous day.

Stability represents a pause after several weeks of upward pressure. A week ago, the dollar was at 753 CUP, which means it has increased by 17 pesos in one week, approximately 2.3%.

The euro (EUR), on the other hand, falls to 865 CUP, down from 872 the previous day, a decline of 7 pesos.

Despite the daily decline, the European currency remains above its levels from a week ago, when it was trading at 855 CUP. Additionally, it holds a significant difference against the dollar: 95 pesos more per euro.

Exchange Rate Evolution

The freely convertible currency (MLC) leads the day's biggest movement, rising from 578 to approximately 603 CUP, an increase of 25 pesos.

However, this quotation should be interpreted with caution, as the index indicates a low volume of data for the MLC. In just one week, its reference value has risen from around 500 to over 600 CUP.

The main rates at the close of this Tuesday are as follows:

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 770 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 865 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 603 CUP (reference value, limited data).

The gap with the official rate continues

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba for Segment III is set at 695 CUP per dollar and 779 CUP per euro, still below the values recorded in the informal market.

The difference reaches 75 CUP per dollar and 86 CUP per euro.

Although this exchange segment was introduced as a more flexible mechanism, the gap with the parallel market continues to reflect the difficulties of the official supply in meeting the demand for foreign currency.

Amid inflation, low wages, and the increasing presence of foreign currencies in certain sectors of the Cuban economy, these variations directly impact the purchasing power of the population and the prices of numerous goods and services.
