The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has offered Katie Zacharia the position of White House Press Secretary, which has been vacant since Karoline Leavitt's departure at the end of August. The selection of this lawyer and conservative commentator was confirmed this Friday, October 9, by sources from the Administration to several U.S. media outlets.
However, it has not yet been publicly confirmed that Zacharia has accepted the offer. A White House official explained to CBS News that the position had been offered to her, while Axios noted that she would assume responsibility if she accepts. The New York Times was the first to report on the selection.
If the appointment is finalized, Zacharia would become one of the main public voices of the federal government and would be responsible for briefings with journalists and the daily communication from the White House.
Who is Katie Zacharia?
Katie Zacharia is a lawyer, political strategist, and conservative commentator with experience in media, political organizations, the private sector, and the federal administration. She has appeared on networks such as Fox News and Newsmax, and has also participated in segments on CNN.
She studied at Pepperdine University in California, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 2007 and a law degree in 2011. The Pepperdine School of Law includes her in its advisory council, the Dean's Council.
Her professional background includes legal work and activities related to nonprofit organizations in China. According to a biography released by Trumpettes USA, she worked in Beijing at the Zhong Lun firm on matters related to the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, as well as participating in educational initiatives for the children of migrants.
His relationship with the Republican Party goes back years. In 2006, he was an intern at the Republican National Committee during George W. Bush's presidency. Later, he worked with Fix California, a conservative organization driven by Richard Grenell, a Trump ally, where he has taken on roles in legal advising and leadership.
His brief tenure at National Security
In February 2026, she joined the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as Deputy Secretary for Public Affairs and spokesperson, amid changes in the agency's communication leadership. Her arrival was reported at that time by Reuters and other outlets.
The stage lasted just a few weeks. In an interview with CNN aired on April 3, Zacharia explained that an internal reorganization had changed the roles he expected to fulfill. He also noted that traveling between Washington and California was challenging to balance with his family life and his four children. He advocated for his intention to continue publicly supporting the president's immigration policies.
Since June 2026, she has served as a senior communication advisor for Trump Media & Technology Group, the company associated with the president that operates the social network Truth Social, according to her professional profile quoted by CBS and CNN.
The replacement of Karoline Leavitt
The position became vacant when Karoline Leavitt, who had served as spokesperson during Trump's second term, left the role to spend more time with her children. The White House officially confirmed on August 27 that it was her last day as press secretary. Leavitt was the youngest person to hold that responsibility.
As CiberCuba reported in August, Trump had announced that Leavitt would maintain a connection with his circle as an external advisor.
According to CNN, before offering the position to Zacharia, Trump consulted several close aides, including Leavitt herself. The choice points to a professional accustomed to publicly defending the president's positions, although the start date and formal acceptance are still pending confirmation.
