A 34-year-old man residing in Miami was arrested on Saturday, October 10, in the Florida Keys after a deputy from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office found four undersized fish during an inspection.

The detained individual was identified as Yankiel García Rodríguez. The procedure took place around 4:00 p.m. near mile marker 40, according to information released by county authorities.

What did they find during the inspection?

A marine patrol agent from the Lower Keys approached García Rodríguez as he was placing a cooler in the back of his truck. Upon inspecting the catch, he found two mangrove snappers (mangrove snapper), one lane snapper (lane snapper), and one black grouper (black grouper), all undersized.

After confirming the violations, García Rodríguez was arrested and transferred to a jail in Monroe County. The information released about the incident does not specify the amount of a possible bail or the outcome of any legal proceedings.

What does Florida establish regarding the minimum size of fish?

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) establishes minimum sizes and catch limits for various species. These regulations may vary depending on the species and whether the fishing takes place in state or federal waters.

The FWC publishes the snapper regulations and grouper regulations that fishermen must consult before keeping their catches. The sheriff's office reported the case through its official channels.
