Yoyi (José Mesa) and Preña Palma (Maikel Martín), the popular couple of influencers and comedians from Cuba residing in Miami, announced the purchase of their first home in the United States through an emotional video on Instagram.
Yoyi recounted that the process was surprisingly quick: "The process was incredible. In less than 30 days, we were able to buy our little house. It went from a dream to becoming reality."
In the Instagram post, the couple emphasized the emotional significance of their achievement: “We look back and remember that time when we lived in tight quarters, with little space and a strong desire to move forward. The journey to this point has been challenging, and that’s why this moment means so much to us.”
From efficiency to home ownership
An efficiency in Miami is a very small apartment—between 194 and 495 square feet—where the living room, bedroom, and kitchen are integrated into a single space, with a separate bathroom. It is the most affordable housing option for newcomers to South Florida, with rents ranging from $1,000 to $1,200 per month.
In February 2025, Yoyi showcased their first efficiency in Miami as a testament to the humble beginnings of this couple as Cuban immigrants.
In that post, Yoyi wrote: "Today I want to share with you a bit about our beginnings in this country: our first efficiency. A small space, but filled with dreams and challenges that marked the start of our new life."
The process of searching for their own home became public in September 2026, when the couple shared a humorous video exploring options in Miami. A few weeks later, they confirmed that the dream had come true.
In the post accompanying the announcement of the purchase of the first home in the United States, Yoyi reflected on the importance of not forgetting one's roots.
"This house also holds a piece of everything we experienced to get here. We don't want to forget our beginnings, as they are part of our story and make us appreciate every corner even more today," she wrote.
The couple, known for their sketches of Cuban humor and their content about the immigrant experience, closed the announcement with a promise: "Now begins a new chapter: turning this house into our home. Filling it with love, laughter, memories, and life together. We are opening a door we have dreamed of for a long time, and behind it lies a life to build."
