Difference between the official exchange rate and the informal market in Cuba
The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 702 CUP per dollar and 783 CUP per euro, remains far below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.
The gap between the official and informal exchange rates is currently 86 pesos for the dollar and 102 pesos for the euro. The difference between the official and informal rates reflects the ongoing scarcity of foreign currency in the state banking system and the high demand for dollars and euros by the population, whether for emigration, importing goods, protecting savings, or making purchases in the private sector.
