A Cuban citizen suffered second-degree burns during a fire that occurred on Tuesday, October 13, in a house in Tapachula, in the Mexican state of Chiapas, under circumstances that authorities are investigating due to suspicions that the injured party may have started the fire themselves.

The man, aged between 35 and 40, was inside the property located in the Raymundo Enríquez area, south of Tapachula, when the fire broke out, according to Diario del Sur.

The emergency prompted the mobilization of elements from Civil Protection and the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection, who arrived at the scene to control the flames and assist the affected individual.

Civil Protection of Tapachula confirmed that the rescuers had to force their way into the residence to access the interior, where the man was located.

In an official statement, the institution noted that "it is presumed to have caused the fire," although it clarified that the relevant authorities will be responsible for determining the accountability.

After being assisted, the Cuban was taken to the General Hospital to receive medical attention for the second-degree burns he sustained.

According to Balance México, preliminary reports suggest that the man may have locked himself in a room and set fire to the space he shared with other migrants. However, this information has not been confirmed by the authorities, and the circumstances that may have triggered the incident remain unknown.

For its part, the newspaper Cuarto Poder indicated that the flames affected the second floor of the home and that the injured person initially resisted receiving help, according to early reports.

So far, there has been no update on the Cuban's medical condition, nor have any official conclusions been disclosed regarding the cause of the fire or potential responsibility for the incident.
