Three men of Cuban origin were arrested on Friday, October 16, at sea, accused of stealing a boat docked at the private pier of a residence in North Miami, according to a report by Univision 23 Miami.
The detained individuals have been identified as Leandro Darian Crespo, 41 years old, Dennis García, and Juan Carlos Sánchez. The main defendant is facing a charge of first-degree grand theft.
How did the alleged robbery occur?
According to the arrest report cited by Univision, the vessel was removed without the owner's authorization on Thursday, October 15, around 10:00 p.m., from a dock located at 12921 Harold Road in the Keystone Point community.
According to the investigation, the suspects arrived through one of the channels that connect the homes in the area with Biscayne Bay and took the boat from the back of the property.
The security cameras at the residence captured what happened, according to information released by the channel.
After receiving the report, the authorities located the vessel while it was being towed by another boat. The three men were intercepted and arrested in the water.
One of the accused claims he was trying to retrieve the boat
The police report indicates that Crespo requested the help of García and Sánchez to remove the vessel from the dock.
However, during the interrogation, Crespo offered a different version. He claimed that he had sold the boat at the beginning of 2026, but that he never received the agreed payment, which is why he returned to reclaim it.
The owner, for his part, stated that he had not authorized the removal of the vessel and presented official documents to the authorities proving his ownership, according to the report cited by Univision.
Crespo faces a charge of first-degree grand theft, one of the most serious categories of property crimes under Florida law.
The specific charges against García and Sánchez were not detailed in the information released.
Univision 23 Miami attempted to contact the owner in the residential community but was unable to obtain statements. The case remains under police investigation.
