A suspected thief who was trying to rob a house in Manzanillo, Granma province, ended up in an unusual situation: he fell deeply asleep on the roof of the house, allegedly due to alcohol consumption, while the panel he intended to steal was still hanging from the structure.

The incident was reported this Sunday by the official profile Entérate con Aytana Alama, which announced the arrest of two suspects involved in the attempted robbery, one of whom was wearing a balaclava.

According to the report, the occupants of the house began to call for help in the early morning upon realizing what was happening.

The police arrived at the scene around four in the morning and encountered a situation that the officers hardly expected.

The result could not have been more unusual, one of those involved had fallen asleep on the very roof of the house due to alcohol consumption during the early morning, stated the spokesperson profile of the regime.

The publication stated that the two suspects were detained, including the individual wearing a balaclava. Their identities, ages, and the exact location in Manzanillo where the incident occurred were not specified.

The account shared by the official profile, however, leaves several unanswered questions. The sequence of events is not clear: at what point did one of the suspects fall asleep? Why did the other one not flee when the occupants of the house started calling for help? Did he not try to wake his accomplice to escape before the police arrived?

It is also not explained how much time elapsed between the alarm calls and the detention of both individuals. These doubts are particularly significant because the publication claims that the agents arrived immediately, but it does not provide details that would allow for a reconstruction of how the incident actually unfolded.

The news prompted numerous reactions on Facebook, where users combined humor over the unexpected outcome with criticisms of insecurity and questions about police conduct.

“Just look at how fast he arrived, he fell asleep waiting hahahaha”, a commentator joked, referring to the claim that the agents arrived at the scene immediately.

Another person celebrated the capture with a popular saying: "Perfect, they were caught red-handed."

However, not everyone was convinced by the speed of the police intervention.

What is not clear is whether the police arrived immediately, questioned a user.

Another internet user responded that the suspects were caught precisely because one of them fell asleep and stated, critically, that the agents often arrive when the incidents are already over.

There were also those who questioned whether alcohol was the only cause of such behavior. "Had he consumed alcohol or something stronger? Because to fall asleep at that exact moment," asked a commentator.

Other participants demanded more information about the detainees, called for severe sanctions, and expressed concern about crime in Cuba.

"My God, the crime is just too much," lamented a woman, while another user celebrated that there were two fewer suspects on the streets and expressed his hope that they would not be released quickly.

The unusual nature of what happened recalls other attempted robberies in Cuba that have ended unexpectedly for those involved.

In May 2025, an alleged thief was left hanging from a building in Havana del Este while attempting to escape using a makeshift rope made of sheets.

The incident occurred in building 322 of the Camilo Cienfuegos neighborhood. According to the report that was circulated at the time, the man had entered an apartment located on a high floor to steal, and when he realized he was discovered, he attempted to descend the facade.

His plan failed when he was suspended at a considerable height, unable to continue descending or return to the apartment. The neighbors alerted the authorities, and the intervention of the firefighters was necessary to rescue him.

The scene prompted jokes among those who witnessed the rescue, comparing the frustrated thief to the fictional character Spider-Man.

More recently, in September, residents of the La Belén neighborhood in Camagüey reported the theft of an ETECSA antenna in which one of the alleged criminals reportedly left feces on the plate where the equipment was installed.

The incident was reported by independent journalist José Luis Tan Estrada based on testimonies from residents in the area. According to the complaint, the individuals responsible cut the installation's cables and also attempted to enter a nearby home.

The discovery sparked numerous jokes on social media, although for the residents, the theft had very concrete consequences: disruptions to telecommunications services in a community that was already facing connectivity issues and prolonged blackouts.
