Cuban comedian Andy Vázquez posted a video on Instagram this Thursday in which he revealed that he was hospitalized after experiencing a severe crisis related to his diabetes, and announced that he will not be able to perform at the show scheduled for Friday, October 23, in Miami.
In the video shared on his Instagram account, the comedian explained that it all started during the filming of a commercial in a Peruvian restaurant where he ate without restrictions.
"I ate indiscriminately because everything was very tasty... I even had a flan, my sugar went up to 273 and my blood pressure dropped to 80 over 40," he recounted.
The combination of a spike in glucose and a sudden drop in blood pressure left him in critical condition while driving his vehicle.
Fortunately, he managed to park the car in time. A friend who was with him took him to the medical center, which was only two minutes away from the location.
"I hardly remember the story; I arrived at the hospital in bad shape. Jennifer says I was looking pale," he described.
Andy Vázquez stayed in the hospital until the early hours of the morning, and at the time of recording the video, he still felt dizzy and had a slight headache.
"Nothing has been able to clarify what is happening; I was really very unwell," he admitted.
The artist explained that he decided to make the situation public to justify his absence to those who had already bought tickets for his performance at Supermachi. Instead, comedian Ramón Mustelier will perform, ensuring a night of laughter for the audience.
The comedian has an upcoming appointment with his doctor to determine exactly what is happening with his health. He also acknowledged that he had previously experienced similar hospitalization episodes that he preferred not to make public.
As he closed the video, Andy Vázquez delivered a direct message to his audience: "The scare was quite big. I am going to take good care of myself for me, for my children, for my family. I always tell you to watch out for diabetes, not to eat sugar, not to eat bread, not to consume anything that could harm you, because health is something that needs to be taken care of immensely."
This is not the first health scare the comedian has faced in the United States. In January 2021, he was hospitalized for serious COVID-19 complications, and he himself stated that he thought he wouldn't make it out. In 2022, he underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his hand, which turned out to be benign.
The comedian, known for his character Facundo Correcto on the Cuban show Vivir del Cuento, established himself in the United States in late 2019 and has since built an active artistic career in exile.
