The American dollar approaches the barrier of 850 Cuban pesos, while the euro continues its climb towards 1,000 CUP, in an informal currency market that keeps pressure on the national peso and records new highs in recent weeks.
According to the from this Sunday, the dollar was valued at 834 CUP, while the euro reached 929 CUP. Both currencies are at their highest levels in the last 30 days.
With those values, the dollar is just 16 pesos away from reaching 850 CUP, while the euro is 71 pesos shy of the 1,000 barrier.
Although these figures reflect the proximity to new thresholds, it does not necessarily mean that they will reach them, as prices can fluctuate in any direction.
The US dollar has a buying rate of 832 CUP and a selling rate of 835 CUP. Its average exchange rate remains at the same level of 834 pesos with which it closed the previous Saturday, although it exceeds the value of 833 CUP recorded earlier that morning.
Exchange Rate Evolution
In just seven days, the dollar has gained 27 pesos compared to the 807 CUP it was at a week ago, representing an approximate increase of 3.3%.
In the monthly comparison, the difference exceeds 100 pesos, although part of that variation may be related to methodological adjustments of the index rather than solely to market movements.
The euro is currently quoted at 927 CUP for buying and 930 CUP for selling, with an average of 929 pesos. This represents an increase of four pesos compared to the closing price on Saturday, when it was at 925 CUP.
In the past week, the European currency has risen by 25 pesos, up from 904 CUP, an approximate increase of 2.8%. The difference with the US dollar currently stands at 95 Cuban pesos.
The rise of both currencies continues a trend that has intensified throughout October. Last Friday, the dollar closed at 830 CUP and the euro at 919 CUP, values that already represented recent highs in the informal market.
The situation contrasts with the behavior of the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), which was referenced at around 536 CUP this Sunday morning.
The figure represents a drop of 49 pesos compared to the 585 CUP recorded at the close on Saturday. During the past week, the MLC has fallen from approximately 652 to 536 CUP, a difference of 116 pesos.
