The Alon brothers, Oren and Tal Alexander, two of whom are recognized luxury real estate agents in Miami and New York, were sentenced to 30 years in prison each for participating in a sex trafficking ring that, for more than a decade, used money, parties, and exclusive trips to lure and exploit women.
The sentence was handed down on Tuesday, October 27, by Federal Judge Valerie E. Caproni of the Southern District of New York, after the three were found guilty in March of multiple sexual offenses, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, according to the United States Department of Justice.
"Her behavior was monstrous," the magistrate stated during the hearing, in which she compared the brothers to the characters of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
The prosecution had requested life imprisonment, while the defense argued for the minimum sentence of 15 years. The three maintained their innocence even after the verdict, a stance that the judge firmly dismissed.
A network of abuse behind a life of luxury
Oren and Tal Alexander gained notoriety as elite real estate agents, brokering million-dollar deals and working with celebrities and major entrepreneurs. Their brother Alon was involved in the family business of private security.
According to the prosecution, the three took advantage of their economic status and social connections to lure women to parties, mansions, yachts, and exclusive trips, where they would subsequently drug and sexually assault them.
The investigated events covered at least from 2008 to 2021, although reports of his behavior date back to previous years.
More than 70 women reported having suffered assaults by one or more of the brothers, while 11 victims testified during the trial.
"I don't understand cruelty."
During the hearing, several victims described the aftermath of the assaults. A woman who testified under a pseudonym described the aggression she experienced as "an eternity of terror."
For her part, Lindsey Acree, an artist and gallery owner, addressed the convicted individuals directly to question their actions.
"Why did they do this? I don't understand the cruelty. I don't understand the hatred towards women," she expressed, according to reports from NBC Miami and The Associated Press.
Fines of up to $350,000 and ten years of supervised release
In addition to the 30 years in prison, Alon and Oren will each have to pay fines of $300,000, while Tal will have to pay $350,000.
Oren received an additional fine of $50,000 for producing child sexual abuse material related to a minor aged 17.
The three will be subject to 10 years of supervised release after serving their sentences and must participate in treatment programs for sexual offenders.
The judge recommended that they be sent to prisons near Miami, where family members live and where they grew up, although she found it advisable to keep them separated.
"I believe they are and will continue to be bad influences on each other," Caproni stated.
The final decision regarding the penitentiary facilities will rest with federal authorities.
