The Government of Spain has extended until December 30, 2026, the agreement with Correos to continue processing extraordinary regularization cases for migrants, a measure that allows for the continued receipt of additional documents from those who applied to take part in the process within the established timeframe.
The decision appears in an addendum published on Wednesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which modifies and expands the agreement signed on June 23 between the State Secretary for Migration and the State Postal and Telegraph Company.
The extension does not reopen the period for requesting regularization nor does it allow the submission of new applications. Its purpose is to continue the administrative tasks related to the applications received during the 2026 call.
The original agreement was set to conclude on September 30, but the addendum signed on September 23 by the Secretary of State for Migrations, Pilar Cancela Rodríguez, and the President of Correos, Pedro Saura García, extends its duration until the end of December.
The measure may benefit Cuban migrants who submitted their applications on time and need to complete information or respond to requests from the Spanish Administration.
Who can submit documents at Correos?
According to the official information from Correos about the extraordinary regularization, the service is aimed at individuals who submitted their application between April 16 and June 30, 2026.
The postal company explains that the phase for rectification is now open, intended for completing or correcting the documentation submitted during the process.
Applicants can use this service in two situations: when they wish to provide additional information on their own initiative or when they receive an administrative request to correct missing, incomplete, or incorrect documents.
It is not necessary for there to be a requirement to provide supplementary documentation, as long as it pertains to a request made within the deadline and adheres to the established procedure.
However, the submission of new documents does not guarantee that the application will be approved, as the decision rests with the competent immigration authorities.
Where are the documents submitted?
Correos informs that the correction phase is available in 110 authorized offices in Spain.
Those interested can check the participating centers on the official service page, under the section "Post Office Offices authorized for the rectification phase."
The service includes two time slots: from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the morning shift and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the afternoon shift.
Before visiting, it is advisable to check which office is authorized and confirm its specific hours, as one should not assume that any post office branch offers this service.
Individuals who have received an administrative notification must bring the requirement and the necessary documents to address the identified deficiencies.
It is also advisable to keep the identifying data of the file and the proof of submission of the documentation to facilitate any future inquiries.
Until when can documents be submitted?
The addendum states that the collaboration agreement between Migraciones and Correos will remain in effect until December 30, 2026.
However, that date corresponds to the validity of the agreement between both entities and does not automatically extend the individual deadlines that may be included in the remediation requests.
The Royal Decree 316/2026, of April 14, establishes that when an application is incomplete, the Administration must communicate the deficiencies and grant a correction period that cannot exceed 15 days.
Therefore, anyone receiving a requirement must pay attention to the date indicated in their notification and not necessarily wait until December 30th.
The lack of response within the granted time frame may result in the application being considered withdrawn, and the case may be archived, in accordance with the applicable provisions.
Is there a fee for submitting documentation?
The official information consulted regarding this phase does not specify an individual fee for using the correction service at Correos.
The regulation of extraordinary regularization does indeed include administrative fees for the processing of certain authorizations, but this concept should not be confused with a potential charge for submitting additional documents at a postal office.
Therefore, before going, interested parties can directly consult with Correos regarding any questions about the service costs.
What changes in the budget of the agreement?
The addendum maintains a maximum budget of 11,765,475 euros for the work commissioned to Correos.
This is not a new allocation of that amount, since the same amount was already included in the original agreement, published on June 30, 2026.
What changes is the distribution of payments and budget exercises, charged to 2026 and 2027, to cover the provision of services during the extended period.
The funding corresponds to the Spanish Administration and is intended to compensate for the tasks of Correos, not to provide financial assistance to migrants.
The extraordinary regularization was approved by Royal Decree 316/2026, which introduced specific pathways for temporary residence for certain foreigners who met the requirements of stay, ties, and other legal conditions.
During the first week of the call, more than 130,000 migrants had submitted regularization applications in Spain, according to the data released at that time by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration.
The process allowed for the submission of applications through electronic means and in designated offices, including certain postal branches; however, the deadline for receiving new applications ended on June 30.
