A Cuban citizen with a criminal record for armed robbery, burglary, and other crimes was arrested by agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Columbia, South Carolina, as reported this Thursday by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of the United States.

The arrest occurred on October 13 and was included by authorities in their "Worst of the Worst" campaign, which publicizes cases of undocumented immigrants with criminal records detained by ICE.

The Cuban, identified by the initials R. L. R., is listed among the five prominent foreigners in the official statement from the DHS, and also by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin.

According to the information released, he has accumulated convictions for three offenses of illegal entry into properties for criminal purposes, a robbery with a weapon in a commercial establishment, and a similar offense committed in a banking institution.

He also has a record for possession of tools used to commit theft, possession of stolen goods, property damage, theft, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The DHS did not specify the dates of those convictions or the circumstances of the crimes. It also did not report whether the Cuban has a current deportation order or what his current status is under immigration custody. There are no statements available from the detainee or his defense.

The case was also reported this Thursday by the American media The Daily Signal, which noted that the White House highlighted these arrests coinciding with President Donald Trump's visit to South Carolina.

The other four foreigners mentioned come from Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, and Colombia, and have backgrounds that include homicide, assault, drug trafficking, and conspiracy to take hostages resulting in death, according to the authorities.

The arrest of R. L. R. adds to other recent cases of Cubans included in the same DHS campaign. This week, three other citizens from the island were pointed out by the U.S. authorities due to their criminal records.
