A green Tesla Cybertruck appeared on the streets of Havana and sparked debate on social media this Friday. Cubans wondered how a vehicle from an American brand could arrive on the island despite the embargo that Washington maintains on Cuba.
The images circulated in various Facebook groups. Juan Carloz shared four pictures of the vehicle in the group Fotos de La Habana: "With the owner's permission. Tesla Cybertruck in Cuba, 1ra and 70, blessings to the owner." Evelio Perez published three more photographs in the group AUTOS DIPLOMÁTICOS EN CUBA: "Look what I found in front of the police station on Zapata, this beautiful car." It was also seen at night in the Cuban capital.
"I've already seen two more on the streets. And where is the blockade?" questioned a citizen. "A Cybertruck... and this one has beaten the cruel blockade the government has on the people," commented a Cuban woman.
"Ah, but there's a blockade, right... Later, Parrilla gets upset when the truth is sung in front of the world. And then this appears. It's clear that the blockade is just a big story. That's what they are, memers," pointed out a Cuban in reference to the chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. "He brought this up after his visit to the UN and talking about the damage the blockade does to the people," another Cuban sarcastically remarked.
"And I wonder, how did it get to Cuba if we have a blockade, right? I wish the blockade didn't exist so that all Cubans could have the opportunity to buy what we want. Oh, by the way, that car is a Cybertruck; it's electric. I’m happy for the owner who can have it, but it makes me sad that they can't use it, because with the situation in our country due to the blockade, without electricity, they won’t be able to charge it," wrote another person.
The design also sparked opinions. "It may be very modern, but there’s no beauty like that of classic cars. It looks like a war tank," said one user. Among the defenders, one argued: "We need to rethink the concepts of beauty. I believe there are other adjectives: modern, innovative, futuristic, and expensive." Another came to the defense of the mechanics: "Those who don’t know anything are talking nonsense; that’s a panoramic Tesla, with horsepower that can move trailers."
In September 2025, the arrival of a modern car from Miami sparked a similar discussion. The embargo does not prohibit all exports absolutely but establishes a general policy of denial with authorized exceptions, and vehicles primarily arrive via the Miami-Mariel maritime route with licenses from the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Department of the Treasury. In August 2026, Cuba approved new rules that allow individuals to import an electric vehicle just once and on a non-commercial basis.
The Tesla Cybertruck 2026 costs in the United States between $74,990 (Dual Motor AWD version) and $99,990 (Cyberbeast). This amount would also need to include shipping costs and Cuban tariffs, which places the total cost well above what any salary in Cuban pesos could afford.
So far, it is unknown who owns the green Tesla Cybertruck that is circulating in Havana.
