UNICEF Cuba has opened a call for applications to fill the position of Social Policy Officer in Havana, with a deadline for applications set for November 3, 2026, at 11:55 PM Eastern Standard Time.
The vacancy 596445, at the NO-2 level, corresponds to a fixed-term appointment contract and was published on October 20th.
The opening of the position is part of the launch of the new UNICEF Cuba Country Program 2026–2030, through which the organization aims to strengthen its capacity to work on children's rights in the Island.
According to the official description, the Social Policy Officer will be responsible for providing technical support at all stages of social policy programming, "from strategic planning and formulation to the delivery of concrete and sustainable results."
The main functions of the position are grouped into six areas: improving data on child poverty and vulnerability to guide policies; strengthening the coverage and impact of social protection for children; enhancing the use of public financial resources allocated for children; reinforcing the capacity of local governments to plan and oversee child-centered social services; promoting advocacy and partnerships for child-sensitive social policies; and supporting the internal management of UNICEF's program.
Minimum requirements
To apply, candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, International Development, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or another relevant technical field.
Moreover, at least two years of relevant professional experience in social policy, child poverty, social protection, public finance, governance, or policy advocacy is required, along with demonstrated skills in data analysis and program management.
As for languages, proficiency in Spanish is mandatory, and an intermediate level of English is required.
Among the desirable qualifications are knowledge of another official UN language—Arabic, Chinese, French, or Russian—experience supervising teams, familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals, experience in cash transfer programs, and a background in partnerships with government and civil society.
How to apply and conditions of the process
Applications are submitted through the application button on the official vacancy page on UNICEF's job portal. UNICEF does not charge any fees at any stage of the selection process, nor does it request banking information from candidates.
The organization does not provide visas or work permits for candidates applying for national officer positions, which includes this NO-2 level. The exact salary and duration of the contract are not disclosed in the announcement.
This plaza is different from the driver and messenger vacancy that UNICEF Cuba published on October 28, which has a deadline of November 11 and corresponds to a category of general services.
Those interested in applying have very little time: the deadline to submit applications is on November 3rd.
