You can check the balance of your Florida EBT card by phone, on ebtEDGE, or on the receipt of your last purchase. In addition to checking how much you have available for food, it is advisable to review your transactions and activate the card's security options.

How to check your Florida EBT balance by phone

Call 1-888-356-3281, the EBT customer service number published by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). The system prompts you for the 16 digits of the card to check your available balance. It also allows you to listen to the last ten transactions.

Another option is to check the receipt from your last purchase. Keep in mind that it reflects the balance at that time: if there have been any transactions since then, verify the current amount by phone or online.

How to check your balance and purchases on ebtEDGE

The ebtEDGE app from FIS allows you to check your balance, deposits, and transaction history. To install it, use the links to the Apple and Google stores found on the FIS page dedicated to ebtEDGE, instead of downloading apps from unknown messages.

You can also access the beneficiary portal through the links on the DCF EBT security page. Follow the instructions to log in or register and check both your balance and recent transactions.

When checking a purchase, compare its date and amount with the receipts you have. If you share household purchases with an authorized representative, clarify first whether they recognize the transaction before treating it as a potential theft.

MyACCESS and ebtEDGE: what each one is for

MyACCESS manages the aid file; ebtEDGE allows you to review the card and its transactions. At MyACCESS, you can check your benefit information and submit documents requested by the department. Do not confuse the status of an application with the balance that is already available to spend.

If you were expecting a deposit and it doesn't appear, check your case and the notifications from the DCF. The official assistance information also provides the phone number 850-300-4323 for inquiries about the application or benefits. For issues with the card or its transactions, use the EBT number: 1-888-356-3281.

How to block online purchases or purchases outside of Florida

In ebtEDGE, the Protect My Account feature allows you to activate restrictions. Block Internet Transactions prevents online purchases or purchases through apps; Block Out-of-state Transactions denies transactions at merchants outside the state, including online purchases with a shipping address outside of Florida.

These options can be activated or deactivated as needed. Before making online purchases or during a trip, check that you do not have a restriction enabled that might prevent your own transaction.

How to temporarily freeze the card

ebtEDGE also allows you to freeze and unfreeze the card. While it is frozen, no transactions can be made, including your purchases. Unfreeze it when you need to use it.

Customer service can guide you on how to set up these protections, but the DCF clarifies that its representatives cannot change the restrictions on your behalf. Temporarily freezing the card does not replace the need to report it and request a replacement when it has been lost or stolen.

How to change your PIN and avoid sharing your data

Do not write the PIN on the card or store it with it. If you forget it or think someone knows it, call the EBT service to change it. Avoid continuing to try codes: DCF warns that after three incorrect attempts, the card cannot be used until the next day.

Do not send photographs of your card, passwords, or access codes to anyone who contacts you via an unexpected message. In the event of a supposed alert, go directly to the official site or call the number listed on the back of your card, instead of using the links or numbers provided in the message.

What to do if you lose your card or notice unfamiliar purchases

If the card is missing, request a replacement at 1-888-356-3281 or through MyACCESS. If you notice transactions you do not recognize, report them to EBT service and keep track of the dates, amounts, and any available receipts.

In investigations regarding the theft of SNAP benefits in South Florida, authorities have described the use of card numbers and PINs obtained illegally. Therefore, it is advisable to review your history even if you still have the physical card.

The DCF notice regarding stolen SNAP benefits indicates that the federal replacement program ended on December 20, 2024. Requesting a new card does not automatically mean recovering the stolen funds. The department notes that victims can file a report with local law enforcement and request a card replacement.
