A private jet crashed this Sunday in Greenacres, a municipality in Palm Beach County, Florida, near the intersection of Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, causing a fire with flames and a thick column of black smoke visible from several kilometers around.
According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, emergency crews arrived at the scene around 1:10 p.m. local time and classified the incident as a "prolonged incident," urging the public to avoid the area.
Images captured from the scene show debris scattered across the roadway, a visible crater in the pavement, and at least one mobile home destroyed after the impact.
According to preliminary reports, the aircraft is believed to have knocked down power lines before catching fire and is said to have directly struck a mobile home park in the area.
The aircraft was preliminarily identified, through flight tracking data, as a Learjet 60 with registration N722BD, a medium-sized twin-engine business jet with a market value of around 2 million dollars, according to the New York Post.
However, that identification had not been officially confirmed by the authorities at the close of the initial reports.
According to the records of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Learjet 60 N722BD is registered under the name of the company LR60271 LLC, with a registered address in Wilmington, Delaware, and a registration certificate valid until January 2030.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue also classified the incident as a potential "mass casualty incident," which triggered a preventive alert protocol in the local hospitals.
However, up until the latest available update, no individuals had been transferred to hospitals, and the exact number of occupants on the plane, as well as the number of deceased and injured—both on board and on the ground—remained officially unconfirmed.
Military Trail was closed to traffic in both directions between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North while rescue teams were working at the scene.
The county of Palm Beach has been the scene of several aviation accidents. In April 2025, a small plane crashed into a car near Boca Raton Regional Airport, resulting in three fatalities, and in July of that same year another plane fell in Lake Worth Beach after taking off from Lantana Airport, leaving seven people injured.
The investigation into the accident that occurred this Sunday will be handled by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which typically releases its preliminary reports within the first few days following an air disaster.
