The Vice President of the United States JD Vance celebrated the most magical Halloween of his political career this Saturday by dressing up as Albus Dumbledore, the legendary wizard from the Harry Potter saga, alongside his entire family on the porch of his residence.
The family photo posted on the official account @VP on X shows Vance wearing a wig, a long gray beard, and a silver robe, holding his baby Alec, who was born on July 19. The message that accompanied the image was brief and festive: "Happy Halloween from the Second Family!".
His wife Usha Vance, Second Lady of the United States, dressed up as a Hogwarts teacher—possibly the stern McGonagall—with a brown witch hat and dark gray clothing.
The older children completed the themed display: Ewan, nine years old, dressed as Harry Potter in a black robe, red tie, and round glasses; another child wore a spider costume, and little Mirabel, four years old, showcased a striking bright green and blue dragon outfit.
The porch of the residence also got into the spirit: orange and white pumpkins, autumn flowers, decorative branches, a blue and gold letter "V," and a carved pumpkin wearing glasses with the text "Harry" were all part of the setting.
Vance also recorded a brief video in which he presented himself as a character: “Vice President Dumbledore here, alongside little Dobby the Elf, wishing you all a happy Halloween”, adding to have fun, stay safe, and eat lots of candy. In the clip, one of his young children is dressed up precisely as Dobby.
Days earlier, Vance had revealed his choice of costume, arguing that his children are great fans of J.K. Rowling's saga and that Dumbledore's white beard and hair were particularly easy for him to portray.
The commentator Eric Daugherty was one of the first to enthusiastically share the video: "Best vice president of all time. Last year it was fat JD, this year his kids are crazy about Harry Potter. He's a great dad!"
This is the second consecutive year that Vance has turned Halloween into a moment of connection with the public. In 2025, he dressed up as the viral meme "Fat JD"—an image that emerged after his controversial confrontation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House—and opened the door of the Naval Observatory residence to costumed children, telling them, "Happy Halloween... remember to say thank you."
The birth of Alec Neel Vance, the baby held by Dumbledore in the photo, was historically significant: he is the first child born to a sitting vice president in over 150 years in the United States.
The Vance family, which consists of four children—Ewan, Vivek, Mirabel, and the new arrival Alec—has established itself as one of the most active and visible families in American politics on social media, turning every holiday into an opportunity to project a sense of closeness to the public.
