The nine people traveling on the private jet that crashed this Sunday in Greenacres, a municipality in Palm Beach County, Florida, died in the accident, confirmed U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy.
The aircraft, a Learjet 60, crashed around 12:50 p.m. in a residential area near Cresthaven, after taking off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas, heading to North Eleuthera, Bahamas.
"The plane crash today in Palm Beach County is a terrible tragedy," Duffy expressed on his X account, where he confirmed that none of the nine occupants survived.
Videos released after the incident show the plane crashing to the ground, causing a massive explosion near a busy road. The impact left a large crater, while flames and a thick column of black smoke rose alongside the houses, according to a report by the Associated Press.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, where authorities closed traffic in both directions.
So far, the identities and nationalities of the victims have not been disclosed, nor has it been specified whether there were any injured or deceased individuals on the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will send a team to support the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which is responsible for determining the causes of the accident.
