Months ago, the Cuban government introduced new regulations for trade and gastronomy.
The Decree 167 "On Domestic Trade", published in August, authorized the creation of chains of stores, restaurants, and light dining networks featuring well-known brands.
In September, Arturo Vázquez Hernández, advisor to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, cited DiTú as an example of a franchise that can be developed in Cuba.
The official explained that using the same brand and common procedures allows for the replication of a business model across different establishments.
When discussing the new commercial modalities, Vázquez also specified: "We are talking about management, not ownership," and clarified that the ownership of state establishments remains in the hands of the State.
Palmares had already called upon economic actors to manage other establishments. In September, it put out for tender 13 cafeterias and sales points in Havana, through a previous call that included leasing the management of gastronomic, recreational, and commercial spaces.
The reopening of DiTú establishments has also been accompanied by high prices for a significant portion of Cuban consumers.
In July, a café of that brand reopened in Sancti Spíritus with a "Tabla DiTú" priced at 4,500 Cuban pesos. Its menu included espresso for 200 pesos, croquettes starting at 1,000, and chicken wings for 2,500 pesos.
