The Cuban government's decision to maintain daylight saving time for the coming months continues to prompt adjustments in the operating hours of institutions and services.

The Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA) announced that, starting November 1, its commercial offices will begin serving the public from 9:00 a.m.

The company announced the change through its , where it explained that this is in response to the measures announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

"We inform our customers that, as part of the measures announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to maintain daylight saving time, starting November 1st, our Commercial Offices will begin operating from 9:00 a.m.," the statement notes.

ETECSA did not specify whether the adjustment also affects the closing time of its offices nor did it detail possible exceptions based on territory or business unit.

The adjustments for daylight saving time in Cuba

The change is part of the organizational modifications stemming from the Cuban decision to maintain daylight saving time until November 2027, instead of setting the clocks back on November 1.

Authorities justified the measure for energy-saving reasons, estimating that it will reduce electric demand by 126 megawatts during peak evening hours through lower consumption of artificial lighting and increased utilization of solar generation.

The decision has also prompted adjustments to the entry times of educational centers and other work activities, with the aim of adapting schedules to the conditions of natural light during the winter months.

Another consequence will be the time difference with Florida. Starting November 1st, Cuba will be one hour ahead of Miami, because the United States will revert to standard time while the Island will remain on UTC−4.
