The Republican congressman of Cuban descent Carlos Giménez expressed on Tuesday his confidence in achieving reelection for Florida's District 28, although he assured that he would wait for the result from the polls while urging voters to go to the polling places and reiterated his support for President Donald Trump’s agenda.

In statements made to Telemundo 51 during the election day this Tuesday, Giménez stated: «», and expressed optimism about the performance of the Republican candidates.

"I am going to wait for all the results like everyone else. But what I am asking is for everyone to go out and vote," expressed the legislator, who is seeking to continue in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Giménez stressed the importance he places on maintaining a Republican representation in Congress to support the initiatives of the American president.

"The president needs to have members of Congress who support him in the plan," he stated.

The congressman also referred to Washington's policy towards Cuba and stated that Cuban-American Republican lawmakers maintain their opposition to the Havana government.

"The Republicans are completely against that regime; we are seeking freedom and democracy for Cuba," he stated.

During the interview, Giménez also addressed one of the issues that most concerns the immigrant community in South Florida: the situation of individuals who have been living and working in the United States for years but still face challenges in regularizing their immigration status.

The lawmaker stated that he and his colleagues Mario Díaz-Balart and María Elvira Salazar have been in discussions with the Trump administration for over a year to promote changes in its immigration policy.

Giménez advocated for the need to seek alternatives for immigrants who have been living in the country for a long time, who are working and have no criminal record.

"The people who have been here for years, who have worked, who are not criminals, we need to find another way with them. Because I don't think it's fair," she stated.

"We are going to continue in that fight," he/she added.

His statements come after Mario Díaz-Balart publicly acknowledged his disagreements with the Trump administration over certain immigrant detentions and admitted that efforts made alongside Giménez and Salazar to assist Cubans with the I-220A form had not yet succeeded in changing the federal government's stance.

In the electoral contest this Tuesday, the Republican congressman faces Democrat Phil "Felipe" Ehr, a retired U.S. Navy commander who also ran against him in 2024, and independent candidate Eddy Rojas.

District 28 encompasses Monroe County, home to the Florida Keys, and areas in the southwest of Miami-Dade, including communities such as Homestead and Cutler Bay.

The candidacy of Giménez has the backing of President Donald Trump, who publicly reiterated his support for the legislator's reelection on October 30th through a message on Truth Social.

In that post, Trump highlighted Giménez's background as a firefighter, former mayor of Miami-Dade, and congressman, and urged voters in District 28 to cast their ballots for him.

Giménez arrived at Congress on January 3, 2021 and has represented District 28 of Florida since 2023.

In the 2024 elections, he received 64.6% of the votes (210,057), compared to 35.4% (115,280) for his Democratic rival Phil Ehr. Florida approved a new congressional district map in May 2026 for this year's elections.

The results of the voting on November 3 will determine whether Giménez secures a new two-year term in the House of Representatives, which would begin in January 2027.
