Vicky Bakery, the Cuban bakery chain with over fifty years of history in South Florida, is preparing to open in Pompano Beach at the end of November, with a location at 1154 N. Federal Highway that is already listed as "Baking Soon" on its official website and in records from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Behind the opening is Yamilé Hernández, the franchisee who has been operating the Boca Raton store since 2023 —the first of the chain in Palm Beach County— making this new establishment her second location under the brand.
Hernandez grew up in Miami-Dade as a regular customer of Vicky Bakery. When she moved to the north of the county, the absence of the bakery was keenly felt. "It's something I missed up here. I used to drive to get it," she told Business Debut in a phone interview.
The Pompano Beach location will occupy 1,630 square feet and will feature indoor tables and takeout service. The menu will revolve around the house classics: pastries, ham croquettes —the best-selling item, according to Hernandez—, empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, all-day breakfasts, bowls, and catering.
Cuban coffee will also play a central role. "We are known for Cuban coffee, coffee with ice," emphasized the franchisee.
The story of Vicky Bakery begins in 1972, when Cuban exiles Antonio and Gelasia Cao —who had worked at La Vencedora, a well-known bakery in Cuba— opened their own business in Hialeah after emigrating to the United States. The name "Vicky" came from the establishment they originally acquired, which was associated with the daughter of the previous owner.
Since then, the chain has grown under family control and in July 2021, it officially launched its franchise program. The expansion has not stopped: in August 2025, it opened its 30th location in Key Largo, marking its first venture in the Florida Keys, and currently has around 25 active stores in the state.
In Broward, the brand is already present in Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, and Hollywood. The location in Pompano Beach would expand that reach to the northern part of the county, further solidifying the expansion strategy that takes the brand beyond its original core in Miami-Dade.
Opening a Vicky Bakery franchise is not a small investment: the model requires a total investment of between US$626,700 and US$1,198,700, an initial fee of US$35,000, a minimum net worth of US$750,000, and at least US$500,000 in liquid assets. The royalties are 6% of monthly gross sales, plus an additional 2% for marketing, with contracts lasting 10 years.
Vicky Bakery has not announced an exact opening date for the Pompano Beach location, although Hernández suggests that the doors will open before the end of November.
