Vicky Bakery, one of the most beloved brands among the Cuban diaspora in South Florida, opened its first store in the Keys and chose Key Largo for this venture.
The new location -the number 30 in the chain- is located at 97630 Overseas Highway.
The new branch arrives with the classic menu that made the brand famous: pastries (guava, cheese, meat), empanadas, croquettes, sandwiches, breads, and cakes, along with the essential coffee bar.
With services for dining in, take-out, and catering options, the establishment is open from Monday to Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
For those familiar with Key Largo, the location makes the stop easy: it is "just after" Shell World heading south, a landmark souvenir shop along US-1 that marks the entrance to the rest of the archipelago.
The opening marks a milestone for a brand born in Hialeah in 1972 and expanded throughout Florida through its pastries, croquettes, and coffee.
"Our dream has always been to share the flavors of our culture with as many communities as possible," said Amy Cao, managing partner, to the local press.
"Now, being able to serve the people of Key Largo and welcome visitors from around the world is a milestone that we are very proud of," he added.
From La Vencedora to Key Largo: Half a century of an untouched recipe
The history of Vicky Bakery dates back to Havana, where its founders, Antonio and Gelasia Cao, met while working at the renowned bakery La Vencedora.
After emigrating to Miami as political exiles, they gathered their savings to buy a small bakery in Hialeah, and in 1972 they opened the first Vicky Bakery with the promise of baking "just like in Cuba."
That family recipe -which has not changed in over five decades- remains the heart of the brand.
A "first bar" on the way
In a new development, the company announced that this Vicky Bakery will debut next month with the brand's first full-service bar, designed to pair tropical cocktails with its most iconic sweets.
"Stay tuned for an exciting announcement [...] Vicky Bakery will unveil its first full-service bar, where diners can enjoy piña coladas alongside their favorite pastries," reported the chain in its launch communication.
With the one in Key Largo, Vicky Bakery solidifies its expansion in Florida, a growth that combines franchises and new locations without compromising the identity that made it famous among Cuban families and new audiences: daily baked goods, heirloom recipes, and a culture of hospitality that replicates the neighborhood window.
"Our dream has always been to share the flavors of our culture…," Cao emphasized, highlighting the significance of this opening for residents and travelers arriving from all over the world to the Keys.
