The download and distribution of humanitarian aid sent by the United States began this Wednesday in the La Santa Cruz Parish, in the municipality of Cruces, Cienfuegos, where about 700 families in poverty will benefit from food and hygiene products.

The activity was announced through a video posted on Facebook, along with a message confirming the start of operations from the early hours of the morning, with the participation of volunteers and workers responsible for unloading and transporting the supplies.

The images show several people unloading cardboard boxes from a container placed on a truck. The workers are coordinating to lower the packages, transport them, and take them to the facilities where they are prepared for distribution.

"Early this morning, the unloading and distribution of humanitarian aid from the United States to the people of Cuba began in the Cruces Parish, thanks to the service of volunteers and dockworkers," states the message accompanying the post.

The same source indicates that approximately 700 families in poverty will benefit from this distribution.

The commencement of operations happens just a day after a new shipment of American assistance arrived in Cuba with 700 food modules and another 700 hygiene product modules intended for vulnerable households in Cruces.

The shipment landed on Tuesday at Abel Santamaría International Airport in Santa Clara and is the second aid consignment from the United States intended for the Diocese of Cienfuegos.

The operation is coordinated by Cáritas Cuba, which previously identified the households with the greatest needs to organize the distribution of supplies.

Priority beneficiaries include seniors aged 60 and over, persons with disabilities or those who are bedridden, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and families with children under five years old.

It is also planned to deliver the modules directly to the homes of individuals who, due to health issues or care needs, are unable to travel to the distribution points.

The organization has explained that the selection of families is based on vulnerability criteria, particularly related to food insecurity and difficulties in accessing drinking water. Therefore, the packages are not distributed indiscriminately to all residents of the municipality.

The supplies are part of the $100 million humanitarian assistance program funded by the United States for Cuba, of which $60 million is channeled through Cáritas Cuba and Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

According to information released by the Catholic organization, the program could benefit around 10,200 families living in poverty within the Diocese of Cienfuegos, through organized distributions in various parishes and communities.

On September 17, another shipment from the United States arrived at the Santa Clara airport bound for the Parish of San Antonio de Padua, in Lajas, also containing 700 food modules and 700 hygiene modules.

Two days later, hundreds of families in that municipality received supplies through an operation involving around 50 volunteers from Cáritas and more than a dozen workers responsible for transporting the load.

On that occasion, carts were even used to transport packages to rural communities and homes that were difficult to access.

The food modules in that delivery contained rice, beans, oil, sugar, pasta, sardines, and tuna. The hygiene packages included personal care and cleaning products, water purification tablets, and rechargeable lamps.

The U.S. assistance program began in July 2026 with an initial shipment to Havana and later expanded to other provinces.

In September, the United States Embassy announced new shipments destined for Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, Cienfuegos, Matanzas, and Pinar del Río.
