The First Lady Melania Trump will convene delegations from Russia and Ukraine this Thursday, November 5, at the White House to discuss the localized ceasefire that she herself negotiated in Oleshky, a Ukrainian city under Russian occupation in the Kherson region, according to the official statement released by the Office of the First Lady.

The announcement describes the meeting as "an extraordinary moment in American history" and as "an unprecedented diplomatic initiative for an American First Lady."

Melania Trump will make a statement at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern Time) regarding the ceasefire in Oleshky during the meeting that will bring together representatives from the two warring nations.

On October 23, the Office of Melania Trump announced that she had achieved a localized ceasefire in Oleshky, initially scheduled for October 29, but which ultimately took effect on the 27th.

The truce, which was extended until November 1, aimed to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians: approximately 1,700 people remained in the city with supply routes blocked.

The First Lady stated that nearly 800 people were evacuated during the operation, although Ukraine accused Russian forces of using the pause to rotate troops and reinforce positions, accusations that have not been independently verified.

In October 2025, Donald Trump's wife sent a peace letter to Putin, which opened a humanitarian channel for the reunification of Ukrainian children deported to Russia.

The Ukrainian president Volodímir Zelenski stressed that technical discussions should lead to a trilateral summit with Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin,

Thursday's meeting takes place in a broader diplomatic context: U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff announced trilateral negotiations in Abu Dhabi between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine for November 10 and 11.

Russia bombed a school in Ukraine on Monday where humanitarian aid was being distributed, one day before the announcement of the meeting, highlighting the fragility of the ongoing diplomatic process.
