A Cuban resident in the United States has shared a reflection on TikTok about consumerism and debt, offering advice specifically to her fellow countrymen: learn to manage money and stop spending on things they really don't need.
The content creator, known on TikTok as Miss_Delgado (@dayanadelgado9704), explained in a video posted on her account why she believes that constantly changing cars or phones can become an unnecessary financial burden.
"The best investment you can make in this country is to take your money and put it to work, and if you don't have a way to invest it, just save it, because one day you'll need it for an emergency or a specific situation," he advised.
The Cuban woman questioned the habit of always wanting the latest model of a phone or a more modern car when the ones they already own are still functioning perfectly. In her opinion, many people end up accumulating debt in pursuit of market trends.
To explain his viewpoint, he used as an example the phones that are released each year and the new vehicles that, despite their differences, continue to serve the same basic functions as their predecessors.
"What we do is, without realizing it, burden ourselves with more debt," she warned.
The most interesting thing is that the Cuban herself admitted to having gone through that situation. However, she asserted that now she has a different mindset and prefers to make the most of what she already has rather than go into debt to buy something new.
"I'm telling you this because it has happened to me, and I no longer suffer from it," she confessed.
According to what he said, he currently has an iPhone 15 and a 2024 Mercedes, two acquisitions he has no intention of replacing as long as they continue to function properly.
Her reasoning is simple: switching cars would mean increasing her monthly payments, something she is not willing to take on just to own a newer vehicle. For her, such decisions can make the difference between enjoying life and spending the month trying to cover expenses.
The creator also recalled that the cost of living continues to rise, making it even more important to think carefully before taking on new financial obligations.
"So pay attention to that," he concluded, emphasizing the importance of saving and using money responsibly.
Her reflection is reminiscent of those shared by other Cubans on social media regarding their experiences with debt in the United States. One of them was Daiana Díaz, who confessed that one of her biggest mistakes upon arriving in the country was financing a 2023 Honda with an interest rate of 24%.
In another testimony, a Cuban resident in Kentucky recommended buying a used car and paying for it in cash, instead of committing to high monthly payments for a new vehicle.
The Cuban Malia Llovet also shared five habits that help her save money in the United States, including avoiding constantly changing phones. She mentioned that she used her iPhone 11 for over four years before purchasing another one.
In the case of Miss_Delgado, her advice is not to give up personal preferences, but rather to avoid unnecessary expenses and make the most of what one already has. It’s a philosophy that, as she acknowledges, she learned after making mistakes with her money.
