The waning Moon will enter the Via Combusta this Friday, November 6, 2026, a region of the zodiac that ancient astrologers deemed particularly unfavorable.
This area is known as the "burning path" or "scorched path." It traditionally extends from 15 degrees of Libra to 15 degrees of Scorpio. The Moon will reach its initial limit in the late afternoon to evening, around 7:30 PM Spanish mainland time.
Why did ancient astrologers fear the Via Combusta?
His reputation is documented in medieval astrology. The scholar Al-Biruni explained in the 11th century that this area presented challenging conditions for the two luminaries, because Libra marks the fall of the Sun, the moment when the radiant star loses strength after the equinox, and in Scorpio, the fall of the Moon is located.
This transit is also influenced by traditional rulerships. Saturn is exalted in Libra and Mars is the classical ruler of Scorpio. Both were considered malefic planets by ancient astrologers. In modern astrology, Scorpio is also associated with Pluto as its ruler.
These classifications describe the symbolism of the signs, not the current positions of the planets. This Friday, the Sun is in Scorpio and Mars is in Leo. The Moon remains in Libra throughout the day.
However, in 2026 the coincidence is striking: Retrograde Venus is transiting through Libra, while Retrograde Mercury and the Sun move through Scorpio, all three within the traditional boundaries of the Via Combusta.
Additionally, the Moon opposed retrograde Saturn in Aries this morning. In astrology, this combination is interpreted as an invitation to reassess personal boundaries, obligations, and agreements that create tension.
When the Moon is in the Via Combusta, in traditional astrology it is believed that judgment is clouded, situations are volatile, and it is unwise to make drastic decisions. For many people, these can be days of great emotional sensitivity, unexpected twists, or temporary chaos.
The former reputation of the "burnt road" does not imply any astronomical danger. The signs most involved are Libra and Scorpio, as well as their opposite signs, Aries and Taurus.
The Moon will continue to wane until the New Moon on Monday, November 9, which will occur at 16°53′ of Scorpio, just after the traditional boundary of the Via Combusta.
