This Sunday a strong tornado hit Havana leaving at least 3 dead, 172 injured and considerable material losses in the capital. One of those affected by the terrible phenomenon told how his car "flew" due to the forces of the winds.

"The car flew, went up about 5 meters and knocked down a wooden post, collided with another concrete one and fell there. I immediately got out and when I saw that, you can imagine what I could have thought," he commented.

The images are devastating. Several municipalities in Havana woke up full of debris from landslides, fallen trees, downed light poles, overturned vehicles and many other images that show the desolate panorama.

This is the first tornado to hit the Cuban capital in decades and was described as an "extraordinary" event. Since 1940, Havana has not suffered an event of such magnitude.

The island's Institute of Meteorology had warned residents of western Cuba that a cold front would cause strong winds, thunderstorms and heavy rain, but no one imagined a phenomenon of this type.

Santos Suárez, Luyanó, Vía Blanca, Regla, Chibás and Diez de Octubre are among the affected capital territories.
