Note:
La Frita Cubana is a type of hamburger that was traditionally enjoyed in Cuba. It is no longer very popular on the island due to the difficulty of sourcing its ingredients. People would consume it at any time of the day, and it was in high demand. It is believed that the first fritas stand in Havana was located at the corner of Paseo and Zapata, on the outskirts of El Vedado.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds of pork ground meat
  • 1 pound of beef
  • 1 tablespoon of binding seasoning (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • To make the battered onion:

    • ½ teaspoon of garlic paste
    • ½ cup of wheat flour
    • 1 pinch of salt
    • 1 pinch of pepper
    • 1 large onion
    • 1 egg
    • A splash of beer
Instructions:

Mix the ground meats with the pepper, garlic paste, and a little salt. Shape the patties and set them aside.

In a pan, heat some oil. Once it’s hot, add the burgers and avoid pressing them down. Cook them over medium heat on both sides until they reach your desired level of doneness.

To prepare the frita:

Slice the bread in half and lightly warm it in a skillet or sandwich press. Add your preferred sauce, followed by the fried item, cheese, and mayonnaise.

Pair it with traditional thin-cut French fries or the crispy onion rings suggested by our chef.

For the batter of the onion:

Prepare a mixture with all the ingredients and set it aside in the refrigerator until ready to use. Avoid refrigerating for more than 20 minutes.

Cut the rings of the white onion to an approximate thickness of 2 cm. Place them in cold water until you're ready to fry them.

Remove the onion rings from the water and dip them into the mixture you prepared earlier to coat them.

In a saucepan, heat some oil until hot, and then add the onion rings coated in the previously mentioned mixture. Drain them lightly so they fry nicely. Once they are golden, remove them and let them drain on paper towels.

Enjoy your meal!!
