Note:
The Frita Cubana is a type of burger that was consumed in Cuba in the past. It is no longer very popular on the Island, as it is difficult to obtain its ingredients. They were consumed at any time of the day and were in high demand. It is believed that the first frita stand in Havana was located at the corner of Paseo and Zapata, on the outskirts of El Vedado.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds of ground pork
  • 1 pound of beef
  • 1 tablespoon of binding seasoning (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • To make the battered onion:

    • ½ teaspoon of garlic paste
    • ½ cup of wheat flour
    • 1 pinch of salt
    • 1 pinch of pepper
    • 1 large onion
    • 1 egg
    • 1 splash of beer
Instructions:

Mix the ground meats with the pepper, garlic paste, and a little salt. Shape the burgers and set them aside.

In a pan, heat oil. When it is at high temperature, add the hamburgers and avoid pressing them down. Let them cook over medium heat on both sides until they reach your desired doneness.

To prepare the frita:

Open the bread in half and lightly heat it in a skillet or griddle. Add sauce of your choice, then the fried item, cheese, and mayonnaise.

Accompany it with traditional French fries cut very thin or with the crispy onion rings that our chef suggests.

For the coating of the onion:

Prepare a mixture with all the ingredients and set it aside in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Avoid exceeding 20 minutes in the fridge.

Cut the rings of the white onion to a thickness of about 2cm. Place it in cold water until you are ready to fry it.

Remove the onion rings from the water and dip them into the mixture you prepared earlier for coating.

In a pan, heat oil, and when it is hot, add the onion rings coated with the previously explained mixture. Drain them lightly so that they fry nicely. When they are golden brown, remove them and drain on absorbent paper.

Enjoy your meal!!
