El Prú Oriental is a refreshing beverage, handcrafted, very popular in eastern Cuba. It has French origins and is also known as root champagne, root beer, or simply "prú." It is attributed with medicinal properties, as many natural ingredients that are energizing are at the base of its recipe. If you decide to make it at home, follow each step carefully and share photos on our social media.
Ingredients:
  • 60 grams of soap
  • 60 grams of bejuco ubí
  • 6 grams of pepper leaves
  • 30 grams of ginger
  • 300 grams of Chinese root
  • 8 grams of cinnamon sticks
  • 5 liters of water
  • 1 liter of mother prú
  • 200 grams of brown sugar
Instructions:

Scrape the soap and the ubí vine. Wash the pepper leaves, ginger, and Chinese root. Cut the soap and the Chinese root into small pieces.

Boil all the spices in the water for two hours. Strain and set aside the brew. Let it rest for 24 hours.

Add the mother prú and the sugar. Stir this liquid until it is completely combined. Let it rest for 72 hours.

Reserve a liter as a mother for the next laundry.
